Planting Wild Flowers around the Village

Planting Wild Flowers around the VillageThe Parish Council is funding an initiative to plant wild flowers in the banks around the village.

Chris Freeman has been sourcing suppliers and organising the planting. So far she has received 400 primrose and cowslip plugs and is hoping to get some more wild daffodils bulbs, once the flowering season is over, to supplement those planted several years ago.

These need to be grown where the grass does not get too long and where the volunteers can work without getting knocked down by speeding vehicles. So far plugs have been planted in the bank at New Inn, at the northern end of the village on the wide bank there and in the bank under the obelisk in the Millennium Green.

Now is an ideal time to move snowdrops so if any of you have a few to spare or can split one or two clumps please plant those in a bank near you. It has been decided that as we are a very rural village plantings should be of wild flowers only.
